There is an analogy that the depth of who we are is like peeling away the layers of an onion. Endless. In other words, just when we think we have it figured out, a new layer appears and we realize there is more to who we are than we realize. It is true for ourselves. It is true for those we know.
It gets complicated. Life, that is. When the wind blows and shakes things up, the picture we hold shifts. We see our lives from another view, another layer if you will, that dictates our next step, even our next life.
I am faced with a certain quandrary today, one that has me shift between tears and resolve. I entertain many possibilities. A stronger version of my current life, maybe. Or a new beginning. The mystery is like awaiting the unfoldment of the agapanthus flower that stands boldly in the wings, ready for its next stage of life in which it becomes a brillant spectacle of blue and white. It teaches me the kind of wisdom that says do not cower from change. Each layer is a gift of self-awareness. Embrace the mystery. Embrace life.
