It has been a busy day in the garden. Laying bark, pruning, weeding, all in preparation for the return of husband and that mischevious basset lad, Merlin, after whom this garden has been named. We have been experiencing a “cold” summer by San Diego standards, with heavy marine layers in the morning making way for perfect temperatures for the rest of the day. Great gardening weather, I must say. One can sense that fall is not too far away as the leaves on the deciduous grape vine begin to brown and the agapanthus makes its final bow for the year. One doesn’t need a gym with three sets of stairs and a whole lot of hauling. The hard work is always worth it. Even in our warmer months, the garden thrives.
